
Marcus Wilford
2020 Fall Fellow
Marcus Wilford is an architectural and urban designer born in Trinidad & Tobago, based in Brooklyn. He is an adjunct professor at City College of New York and New Jersey Institute of Technology. Marcus has practiced with leading architecture firms, contributing to the design and construction of civic projects at both the architectural and urban scales. His work emphasizes restorative justice and community engagement, focusing on the design of impactful memorials, buildings, and spaces that shape the urban environment and foster a sense of place. As a 2020 IPA BQE Fellow for NYC LOOP, he and his team envisioned the BQE right of way as a mass transit line from Queens to Downtown Brooklyn to reduce commute times and increase job accessibility.
Marcus has experience working in developing countries and a passion for cross-disciplinary work and research. His approach utilizes the agency of ecology as a method for the strategic design of cities and infrastructure. With experience in projects that respond to social, cultural, and environmental dimensions, he has an understanding of the vital importance of an inclusive open-ended city where improvisation, flexibility, and participation are key priorities. Recent work includes urban design projects in Colombia, Southern California, and Houston.
