Kii Kang

2025 Summer Fellow

Kii (Wonki) Kang is an artist, architect, programmer, and “hacker” based in Brooklyn, New York. Working primarily with computational tools such as the web and interactive sound systems, his practice explores the reassembly of virtualities, embodied semiotics, and meaning-making beyond language. Most recently, his work was presented at the 2024 Toronto Biennale of Art, where he performed Memex Acúsmatica, a live sound performance that weaves together live coding, artificial voices, and soundscape composition. Alongside it, he exhibited a web-based platform that collects collective sentiment on computationally “vandalized” archival materials using generative AI. Kang previously served as software lead at a startup developing expert systems for housing design, focusing on visualizing and communicating the environmental impact of buildings. He was also part of the inaugural cohort of the Community Privacy Residency in Taipei, Taiwan. He holds master’s degrees in Architecture Studies and Computer Science from MIT.
