Beth Ferguson

2026 Fall Fellow




Beth Ferguson is a designer and researcher whose work integrates circular materials, renewable energy systems, micromobility infrastructure, ecological design, and climate resiliency planning. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at the University of California, Davis, where she directs the Circular Futures Lab.

Ferguson has developed Solar Mobility Hubs for the MacArthur BART Station in Oakland, California, and for the San José Department of Transportation, with support from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. She received the Austin Green Award for her Electric Drive Solar Kiosk installation in Sand Beach Park. She was a member of Public Sediment, a team in the Resilient by Design competition in the San Francisco Bay Area supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. This work was recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Environmental Design Research Association.

Her project Tools for a Warming Planet has been exhibited internationally at Ars Electronica, Dutch Design Week, Otago Museum, the Exploratorium, and Arts Santa Mònica. Her collaborative project Eco Materials Library has been installed at UC Davis and CU Boulder and received the Best Paper Award at the International Symposium on Academic Spaces in the United Kingdom. Her work has been featured in Fast Company, BBC News, The New York Times, Wired Italy, and Radio New Zealand, and exhibited at SXSW, the ZERO1 Biennial in San José, the Roskilde Music Festival, and TEDxPresidio.
Ferguson is a Research Resident at the Autodesk Technology Center in San Francisco, a Resident with the Institute for Public Architecture, a former Fab Lab Resident at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, a former American Arts Incubator Fellow in New Zealand, and a recipient of the Hellman Fellowship.
