
Severn Clay-Youman
2022 Fall Fellow
Severn Clay-Youman is an architect living and working in Brooklyn. A graduate of Pratt Institute School of Architecture and Oberlin College, he started Civic Architecture Workshop in 2015 to bring together his interests in public space, community building and the arts. Prior to studying architecture, he worked internationally as a lighting and set designer for dance and theater. Severn lives in Brooklyn with his family and is an avid sailor, boatbuilder and gardener. He is a registered architect in New York and Kentucky. As a 2022 IPA BQE Fellow for Prospect Trace, he and his team proposed transforming the Prospect Expressway, an extension of the BQE, from a noisy, dangerous and polluted utilitarian corridor that is strictly vehicular into a welcoming civic space.
