On December 5th, 2024 the IPA hosted a Community Listening Event at El Puente to listen together to oral histories from elders and youth in communities across Brooklyn and Queens.
Oral history facilitators Mitra Bonshahi and Adriana Gallardo presented audio excerpts from conversations between friends, neighbors, and family members about the impact of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on their lives. Participants were invited to share their experiences and hopes for the future of their neighborhoods. This event was free and open to the public.

The Story of the BQE is made possible by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our partner NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate and sponsors Big Oh Bijoux, KVL Audio Visual Services, Sasaki, Simons Hardware, and the Municipal Art Society Enduring Culture Initiative. |
