Mitchell Gaudet


2024 Summer Fellow
Mitchell Gaudet was born in New Orleans, Louisiana where he received his Master of Fine Arts from Tulane University. In 1991 he founded Studio Inferno, a hot glass studio and artists space where he continues to work.

He is known for his cast glass and metal sculptures and installations. His work is often beautiful, satirical, and biting in message. He has dealt with the effects of hurricane Katrina, the BP oil spill, the murder rate in New Orleans and currently the issues of gun ownership, gun violence and school shootings. He has exhibited work nationally and internationally and received several grants and awards to include a Pollack-Krasner Grant and a Joan Mitchell Award. In addition to his studio work he has taught at the Pilchuck School of Glass in Seattle, Urban Glass, Brooklyn New York, The Glass Furnace in Istanbul, Turkey, Toyama Institute of Glass in Toyama, Japan, Bildwerk School in Frauenau, Germany and The Glass School in Bornholm, Denmark. He is a veteran, having been honorably discharged in 1999 at the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He is currently living on luck, with his artist wife Larkin in the woods of Carriere, Mississippi.
