My project seeks to humanize the numbers of victims that are so often lost or ignored in statistics.I have completed and will install a piece on Governors Island that will allow the public to not only see a visual representation of the 18856 people estimated to have been killed with guns in the United States in 2023 but feel the number of deaths.
I will install a continuous chain of 18856 spent and destroyed assault weapon bullet casings that will stretch one half mile long on Governors Island. The public will be invited to not only see the chain but hold the chain and walk its length allowing the casings to move through their hands feeling each of the 18856 victims.
