Corey Arena

2023 Fall Fellow
Corey Arena is a designer at Gans & Company, where his work engages public architecture and community-focused design. He received his B.Arch from Pratt Institute, where he was co-founder and president of Pratt Student Action for Inclusive Design (SAID). His thesis critiqued the single-family home as a cultural, economic, and spatial project in the shadow of the 2008 recession, and reimagined communal ways of living. He was a member of the AIANY Civic Leadership Program Class of 2020, leading a session on school integration, with the D15 Diversity Plan as a case study. The following year, he became an Advisor to the Class of 2021, collaborating with five other advisors on six months of programming, engaging local elected officials, architects, urban planners, researchers, and academics. He is currently Co-Steward of the Architecture Lobby NYC Chapter and helped found the Pratt Chapter, as an alumni. At Gans and Company, Corey is a key member of the team for the Brooklyn Children’s Museum Garden Renovation, which will restore a half-acre exterior space, situated within Brower Park, for universally accessible active play. His past projects include post-Sandy housing, through the NYC Mayor’s Office of Housing Recovery Operations Build- it-Back program, to maintain working-class housing in Sheepshead Bay. Approaching ten years as a resident in Brooklyn, he recently moved to Gowanus, where he enjoys enough proximity to Prospect Park for regular walks and to lower Manhattan for periodic figure drawing.
