ABOUT THE PROJECT
Terramation is a regenerative design–build experiment developed during the 11-week 2025 Fall Residency period. It explores what happens when architecture becomes part of the biological cycle of life and decay.
The project is a prototype for a living habitat — a circular shelter that functions like a machine: you feed it with your organic waste, and it digests and transforms that waste into fertile soil. This soil becomes the very material from which the structure is built — its walls grow from what is discarded, turning waste into a resource with value.
Over time, the inhabitant becomes part of this same metabolic loop. You spend your life building the structure that will one day receive you. The body returns to the house, decomposes, and nourishes the next layer of soil. Here, the house becomes both dwelling and grave — a closed-loop habitat that continuously regenerates itself through the matter it consumes.
