
Ben Furnas
Ben Furnas joined Transportation Alternatives as Executive Director in early 2025. From 2014 to 2021 he served in the New York City Mayor’s Office, where he was an early architect of the city’s Vision Zero plan. While at City Hall, he served as a Senior Advisor for Infrastructure and Sustainability, the Deputy Director of the Mayor’s Office of Policy and Planning, and the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Sustainability. Immediately prior to joining TA, he led The 2030 Project, a climate research initiative at Cornell University and from 2006-2009 he worked at the Center for American Progress. He holds a JD from NYU School of Law. Furnas lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two daughters, and he is a longtime cyclist and advocate for safer streets, better public transit, and a more liveable city.
